Fun and Fancy Revised Edition Eleanor G. Robison Ginn Reader 1959 NF

A colorful mid-century educational reader from Ginn & Company's highly influential Ginn Basic Readers program. Designed as an enrichment text for third-grade students, Fun and Fancy collects poetry, folktales, animal stories, humorous pieces, and adapted literary selections by notable children's authors including Beverly Cleary, Alice E. Goudey, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ruth Stiles Gannett, Robert Bright, Clyde Robert Bulla, and others. The volume reflects the optimistic, illustration-rich style of American elementary education during the late 1950s and features numerous full-color and spot illustrations throughout. Bright orange pictorial boards remain exceptionally clean with strong color retention and only light shelf wear at extremities. Spine is square and binding tight. Interior pages are clean, bright, and unmarked except for a small contemporary ownership notation ('Gwinn - 3rd') on the front free endpaper. No writing, highlighting, stamps, or library markings were observed elsewhere. Corners remain sharp with only minor rubbing. No dust jacket, as issued. Overall an unusually well-preserved example of a heavily used school reader. Revised Edition, later printing. Title page states 'Revised Edition.' Copyright page carries both 1959 and 1956 Ginn copyrights and code '160.4 B.' No first-printing statement is present. This appears to be an early revised-edition printing issued by Ginn & Company for classroom use in 1959 or shortly thereafter. Eleanor G. Robison was an educator and compiler associated with the development of Ginn educational readers during the mid-twentieth century. Her work focused on creating age-appropriate reading materials that combined literary quality with vocabulary development and reading comprehension objectives.
