Gives instructions for making ten eatable treats, including an ice cream clown, a shortbread house, an egg man, and a melon crab
Reviews:
Gr 1-4--Both of these titles give instructions for 10 projects, each of which has 3 steps described on a double-page spread. Fun Food includes treats such as an ice-cream clown, a shortbread house, and a melon crab. Most of the projects involve using a knife, and the recommendation for adult assistance is inconsistent. For example, children are told to slice buns or cut hard-boiled eggs and cucumber, but to ask a grown-up to slice a cake in half. Face Painting shows how to paint faces like a teddy bear, a funny bunny, a striped cat, and a mermaid. Most projects will require adult assistance, particularly those that utilize a blending technique that's too sophisticated for children who would be drawn to the activities. The colorful illustrations and photographs give these books plenty of appeal. However, the oversimplified instructions belie the complexity involved in some of the projects. These two titles may serve as resources to use as inspiration but do not rely on them for detailed instructions.
