About this Item
This is a rare first edition of Tony Crosland's classic answer to post war demands for new thinking on the left. The emphasis throughout is less on economic than on social equality: less on redistribution of income than on changes in the sphere of education, style of life, consumption patterns and industrial relations. The book is in pretty good condition for its sixty-eight years - somewhat better than 'very good' and perhaps approaching 'near fine'. The dark red (canvas effect) cloth-bound boards are evenly coloured, unfaded and unmarked, with no scratches or dents; the edges are all straight and the corners sharp albeit with slight bumps to the bottom ones, front and back. The text block is square and tightly bound with spotless edges and a dull, pinkish stain on the top edge still present. Internally the pages are all exceptionally clean and bright with no foxing, markings or underlinings, etc, and no inscriptions with the exception of some previous bookseller s jottings in pencil at the top of the ffep to the effect that the book is a first edition published in 1956, together with a previous resale price. The dust jacket is complete and intact although a little frail in places: tatty at the top and bottom edges of the spine panel and grazed along the folds which join the front and back panels to the spine panel. There is some soiling/tanning to the white areas of the back panel. The publisher s original price (42s. net) is still in place. We have included five photos of this book and would of course be happy to provide more. Seller Inventory # 221
