Ready to understand what those lines of G-Code actually do?
CNC programming can seem complicated when you first encounter commands, coordinates, machine movements, tool offsets, feeds, and speeds. But once you understand how the pieces fit together, G-Code becomes much easier to read, write, and work with.
G-Code Programming User Guide for Beginners provides a practical, step-by-step introduction to the fundamentals of CNC programming without overwhelming you with unnecessary complexity. Whether you are completely new to G-Code or looking to strengthen your basic CNC programming skills, this guide helps you build your knowledge one concept at a time.
Inside, you’ll discover how to:
- Understand G-Code and how CNC machines interpret commands
- Read the basic structure of a CNC program
- Work with X, Y, and Z coordinate systems
- Understand absolute and incremental positioning
- Use common G-Codes and M-Codes
- Control basic machine movements and circular interpolation
- Understand spindle speeds, feed rates, and cutting parameters
- Work with cutting tools, tool changes, and tool offsets
- Understand facing, profiling, pocketing, slotting, and contouring
- Apply cutter and tool length compensation
- Build simple CNC programs from the ground up
- Use canned cycles, subprograms, and repetitive operations
- Test and troubleshoot programs before machining
- Turn technical drawings into practical CNC operations
- Develop safer and more organized programming habits
Rather than simply presenting lists of commands to memorize, this guide focuses on how and why G-Code is used. Clear explanations and practical examples help connect the code on the screen with the movements taking place inside the machine.
By working through the concepts progressively, you can develop a stronger understanding of CNC programming, improve your ability to follow existing programs, and gain the confidence to begin creating your own basic G-Code programs.
Start with the fundamentals. Understand the commands. Follow the toolpaths. Build your programming confidence.
Whether you are a CNC beginner, machining student, hobbyist, technician, or someone looking to develop practical CNC programming knowledge, G-Code Programming User Guide for Beginners provides a straightforward foundation for taking the next step.
This book is for educational purposes only. Always consult your CNC machine and controller manuals, verify programs before machining, and follow proper safety procedures. The examples are instructional and may not be suitable for every machine or application.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free.
