GENE RODDENBERRY: THE LAST CONVERSATION: A DIALOGUE WITH CREATOR OF STAR TREK (Star Trek Series)

Based on interviews with Gene Roddenberry in the last months of his life, a portrait of the creator of Star Trek describes the creative spirit that brought the television series to life. Reprint.

The creator and driving force behind both the original Star Trek® and Star Trek: The Next Generation®, Gene Roddenberry created a mythology for the twentieth century. One of the most enduring cultural phenomenons of our time, Star Trek was from the beginning a forum where its creator, its writers and its viewers could explore the fundamental questions of life: What does goodness mean? Where does duty end and morality begin? And most often: What does it mean to be human?

In the last months of his life, Roddenberry offered to share his views on life with Yvonne Fern. The result is a probing dialogue that serves as a portrait of both the man and his ideas. Roddenberry's creation opened a window into the human condition and has stirred the dreams of an entire generation. Now, reading this final message, we are moved a little closer to the luminous future that Star Trek showed was already within us.
