xvi, 337 pages. Hardcover: H 23.75cm x L 16cm. No dust jacket. Mustard yellow cloth mildly soiled. Past owner's name ink stamp "James L. Hill" (retired professor of University of Alabama Department of Engineering Mechanics) on all three text block edges as well as on front and rear free endpapers; impression from removed rusty paper clip at top gutter margins of pages 213-218 with small shallow chip at tops of pages 215-216; some scattered notes-marginalia in light pencil but majority of leaves remain quite clean. Binding is firm. Born in Latvia in 1905, Eugene Leimanis held teaching positions at several European universities during the 1930s and 1940s before finally earning his Ph.D. in mathematics from Baltic University in Hamburg, Germany in 1947. Leimanis emigrated to Canada in 1949 and joined the Department of Mathematics of the University of British Columbia where he taught until his retirement in 1974. {MathShelf#2}.
