Good condition, medium octavo, plum cloth, titles in gilt across front, sunning and wear to spine (small split at top), two coloured plates and 16 monochrome plates (lacks one), 283 pages plus 37 pages of publisher's list, school library label on rear free end paper. Scarce book exploring Germany and its society prior to the Great War. Includes sections on the military, students, sporting, manners, education. Later published with different plates by Bobbs Merrill 1911 as "Germans". An attempt to override the generalisations and prejudice prevelent at the time. [QP].
