Forse tutti, almeno una volta, abbiamo visto raffigurato il ritratto del Buddha; un volto dal sorriso pacato, con gli occhi socchiusi, che sa attingere a una qualit� che si esprime dall'interno. Quel volto � semplicemente quello che l'immagine di un uomo che ha raggiunto uno stato di armonia. Un uomo che ha compreso, e che in questa comprensione ha potuto placare ogni turbamento. Egli ha tentato di percorrere una Via che portasse alla liberazione dal dolore. E, in questo, ha trovato e reso possibile per chiunque la pi� completa e immobile serenit�. Non � del tutto pertinente definire in senso stretto "filosofia" la risultante del percorso di ricerca del Buddha. In lui non si poneva infatti la domanda sull'origine di tutte le cose, n� sul concetto di Dio, e neppure era presente alcuna visione escatologica. Il suo unico scopo era trovare una Via di liberazione dalla sofferenza, e ogni sua intenzione, pi� che speculativa, fu essenzialmente pratica. La meta raggiunta, il suo risveglio, non fu una comprensione, ma uno stato esistenziale. Fu chi cerc� di spiegare successivamente il processo che egli visse, che pose le basi di una filosofia buddhista. Egli in realt� non se ne cur� possiamo dire che questa fu la sua straordinaria "filosofia".
