Gould & Lincoln imprint at base of spine. [20.1 cm.] Head of spine chipped, base of spine and corners worn, some rubbing and light spotting to cloth. Title page foxed; rather light scattered foxing elsewhere. Early penciled ownership inscriptions on front endpapers. Good. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, following the London edition of the same year (2 vols., titled: "Selections from the Correspondence of R.E.H. Greyson, Esq.") Although Rogers gives himself as the editor in the title, Greyson was an imagined correspondent and these epistles consist of reflections and advice by Rogers on various subjects. Rogers (1806-1877) was an English author and Christian apologist best known for "The Eclipse of Faith, or, A Visit to a Religious Sceptic" (1852). Seller Inventory # 0000554
