Many of the photographs in this book are nothing short of remarkable. Ranging from shots of climbers dangling acrobatically on the sides of mountains to luminous sunsets, the exceptional images throughout emphasize exotic peoples and places, notably the airy reaches of Tibet. Refreshingly short on text, the book is driven primarily by the photographs themselves, along with brief captions about how each image was made. The spare text allows one to concentrate on the photographs in what essentially is a travelog of the photographer's best work. Galen Rowell's Vision is beautifully printed and very reasonably priced for a book of this quality. It should be considered for both photography and travel collections in public and academic libraries. Highly recommended.
