Complete in one substantial volume: 3 unnumbered preliminary pages, then pp. 4–603, followed by a concluding advertisement page. Text entirely by John Roberts. Profusely illustrated with diagrammatic figures on most pages. Bound in an older three-quarter binding with raised bands; spine lettered “The Game of Billiards” and “Roberts” between the bands (five bands total). Condition note: the front board is cleanly detached (present and aligns well; a straightforward repair for a binder). Text block is tight and complete. A major instructional treatise on English billiards, originally issued in serial/periodical form and here bound complete with its original pagination preserved. The concluding advertisement references John Roberts & Co., “Billiard Table Makers to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales,” and promotes the “Roberts Patent Cue Tipper,” providing strong period context. Scarce in complete form and an excellent reference/source volume for collectors of billiards history and technique.
