Gateways to Arts Journal for Museum and Gallery Projects

Gateways to Art’s Journal for Museum and Gallery Projects prepares students for museum visits and guides them on how to develop visual analysis skills and make connections with what they have learned in class. The new edition features gradable assignments for students to complete during their museum visits. A checklist helps prepare for a museum visit, including a list of what to bring, a summary of what to look for and take note of while there, and a short summary of the major forms of analysis. Students will learn what to consider when encountering any work for the first time, and discover that there are many ways of viewing and interpreting great works of art.

Debra J. DeWitte has a PhD in aesthetics from the University of Texas at Dallas. She now teaches at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she has devised an award-winning online art appreciation course.

Ralph M. Larmann has a BFA from the University of Cincinnati and an MFA from James Madison University, and is an accomplished painter. He is Professor Emeritus of Art of University of Evansville and[SL1.1] is a past President of Foundations in Art: Theory and Education.

M. Kathryn Shields has a PhD in art history from Virginia Commonwealth University. Kathryn is Associate Provost, Professor of Art History, and Art Department Co-Chair at Guilford.
