It is an autobiography about Edwin Potter (not his real name), a man with schizophrenia. He had no treatment, and, as a result, he killed somebody. This is the true story of his trial, his struggle, and his comeback.

About the Author

David Geiger is a native of New Jersey where he stillresides and is married with three grown children. He is an electrical engineerwith a baccalaureate degree with honor as well as a master's degree fromStevens Institute of Technology. He has a professional license from the Stateof New Jersey and worked in New York City for twenty years as an engineer withCon Edison. He is also a member of Mensa where he started his writing interestsin Imprint: TheNewsletter of Northern New Jersey Mensa as of December 1990.
 
In 1979 he was 25 years old when he had his first battlewith schizophrenia. He lost that battle. His wife died, and he severely injuredhis then-infant son. He went to trial, but the jury saw that he was sufferingfrom an illness and acquitted him as Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity. He thenspent four years in a psychiatric hospital and, a couple of decades later,spent another three years in another such facility, always under thejurisdiction of the court. This is the story of his comeback.
 
In the Matter of Edwin Potter: Mental Illness andCriminal Justice Reform (IMOEP) is the true story of his struggle as alicensed professional to overcome schizophrenia, to succeed as a professional,and to contribute to today's criminal justice reform movement based upon hisexperiences.
 
As part of his effort to reduce recidivism he attendsconferences at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. He has astrong interest in music and a love for art which he continues to study at TheSchool of Visual Arts, also in New York City. Some of his work can be seen inthe book.
