Gender Equity in Islam - This popular book examines the spiritual, social, and economic aspects of women s position in Islam and, in doing so, effectively summarizes the role of women in Muslim society. Further, in explaining the sources that provide the foundation for Islam's stance on gender equity, the author discusses the role of Islamic scholars in their approach to women s issues.

The book presents an overview of the status and rights of Muslim women as defined by the Quran and Sunnah.

About the Author:

Dr. Jamal Badawi is Professor Emeritus at St. Mary s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, where he served as Professor of both Management and Religious Studies.

He completed his undergraduate studies in Cairo, Egypt and his Masters and Ph.D. degrees at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

Dr. Badawi is the author of several works on Islam, including books, chapters in books and articles.

In addition to his participation in lectures, seminars and interfaith dialogues in North America, Dr. Badawi has been frequently invited as guest speaker on Islam in nearly 30 other countries.

He is a member of the Islamic Juridical [Fiqh] Council of North America, The European Council of Fatwa and Research and the International Union of Islamic Scholars. He has been serving as a volunteer Imam of the local Muslim community in Halifax, Canada since 1970.

Dr. Badawi is father of 5 children and grandfather of 17.
