Gene Logsdon's Practical Skills: A Revival of Forgotten Crafts, Techniques, and Traditions

Gives practical advice on workshop methods and tools, home maintenance, and homestead management

A how-to book for the homesteader, this covers livestock management, butchering, and building country lanes. Other topics of more general interest include patchwork quilting, woodlot management, minor household repairs, and gardening tips. This is an interesting book, but there are others that do a more thorough job: Back to Basics , by the Reader's Digest editors ( LJ 6/1/81), and Carla Emery's Old Fashioned Recipe Book: the encyclopedia of country living (1977). Of interest to some public libraries. Elizabeth Keeler Tom, formerly with Purdue Univ. Libs., West Lafayette, Ind.
