About this Item

16pp, printed rectos only, paper covers. Fine, unused condition, some browning of the covers and a touch of damage to the top of the spine. The Mersey Railway originally ran steam trains through its tunnels but due to all the smoke & pollution travellers reverted to the ferries and, as a result, the company was in dire financial straits by 1900. As a result it adopted electric traction from 1903. It remained independent at the grouping in 1923 and was nationalised in 1947. This tender relates to the construction of a new 5-car train - 9 contractors were invited to tender, this one is for the electrical equipment. A rare survivor!
