The third edition of Thomas Bewick's popular natural history study on quadrupeds, illustrated with vignette engravings by the author. The third edition of this important work'A General History of Quadrupeds' examines two-hundred and sixty mammals from across the world, looking at domestic animals, such as horses and cows, as well as wilder animals such as jackals and polecats.This work was popular upon its publication, especially for the fine illustrations.Illustrated with a vignette title page, and many in-text illustrations from Bewick.ESTC T60630Page 394 misnumbered 384, as called for.Written and illustrated by Thomas Bewick. Bewick was the author of natural history works, including 'A History of British Birds', and an engraver. He was apprenticed and eventually became the partner to Ralph Beilby, who supplied the text of this work. Rebound in half calf, with cloth covered boards. Endpapers renewed. Significant rubbing to back strip, with small losses of calf. Rear board detached. Front board weakly held by a single cord only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with spotting and instances of spotting throughout, most concentrated to page perimeters. Restorations to final leaf. Good Only. …
