General Lane s Brigade in Central Mexico. By Albert G. Brackett, H.W. Derby & Co, Publishers, Cincinnati, 1854, frontispiece portraits of Lane, 336 pp, blind stamped brown cloth, 7.5 x 5 , 12mo. In fair condition. Moderate wear to extremities with scuffing to corners and edges. Spine ends quite worn with loss. Spine slightly slanted from previous storage. Modest soiling to surface of cloth. Gilt lettering on spine dulled and tarnished. Front pastedown has picture pasted from another book Aggie Gathering Snow-Drops. Old hand ownership of Eugene Printz of Zanesville, OH on fly. End papers soiled overall. Offsetting from frontis onto tissue guard. Finger soiling throughout with areas of age staining and foxing. Fore edge soiled with ink staining. Binding cocked with tender mid-gutter. Please see photos. Quite scarce. Joseph Lane (1801-1881) was an Indiana politician and one of the six Brigadier Generals appointed directly from civilian life by President Polk at the start of the war with Mexico, fighting in both the northern campaign with Zachary Taylor and the southern campaign with Winfield Scott.
