Synopsis
Accelerated human activity since the 1950s have led to the current instability and damage to the world's ecological systems. Although significant technological progress has been made, mistakes have also been made. In the early twenty first century, we are experiencing the consequences of some of our mistakes in the form of global warming and climate change. It is now time to put right that which has gone wrong. The former U.S. Vice President, Al Gore, launched the Save Our Selves (SOS) campaign with 24-hour "Live Earth" concerts across seven continents on 7th July 2007 to raise public awareness and mobilise global action to address global warming and climate change. In 1993, Al Gore initiated and funded the program that has enabled the benefits of the internet to be available to everyone. Sir Richard Branson of Virgin, has pledged US$3 billion over 10 years to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The aim of this book is to raise public awareness of the risks of not addressing global warming and climate change together with the potential solutions and the benefits of change. The objective is to motivate readers to implement solutions that will reduce reliance on fossil fuel energy sources - the main causes for global warming and climate change. By providing essential information on the alternative technologies available, the intention is to empower governments, academics, private organisations and individuals to develop alternative technologies and implement the necessary infrastructures needed to generate the ever increasing amounts of energy required by the ever expaning global population without conpounding the concerns related to greenhouse gases emissions. As more homes use these grid connected microgeneration technologies, the human benefits of generating and sharing electrical energy generated from renewable energy sources will be similar to the benefits experienced by sharing information over the internet.

Gunasegaran incorporated Solar Energy (UK) Limited www.solarenergyuk.net to contribute towards making alternative technologies, using renewable energy sources, both practical and cost effective. These are the solutions to addressing the current global concerns related to environmental pollution, and global warming leading to climate changes.While at school, Guna developed an electric car that was later converted to be powered by a 50 cc motorcycle engine. In 2007, Gunasegaran is in the process of establishing business collaborations to increase the use of electric vehicles. Whilst a Teaching Company Associate at Warwick University between 1979 and 1982, Guna developed the forerunner of the computer-aided Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) at the Freight Rover arm of BL Cars. The project enabled Freight Rover to reduce its inventory holding cost by £1.22 million. Guna authored his book "First Steps Towards Computing", published by Heinemann Publications in 1986 to assist adults to become aware of the potentialities of the newly emerging Information Technology. Currently, he has finished his PhD thesis in Employee Relationship Planning (ERPII) aimed at improving employer-employee relationships to improve corporate productivity and enable employees to enjoy their working experiences. The successes of his past endeavours were primarily due to his efforts to foster positive people collaboration across the organisation to reap the power of unity in people relationships. Human activities in the inappropriate use of energy since the 1950s are entirely responsible for the current instability and damages to the world's ecological systems. The aim of this book is to raise public awareness on Energy Resource Planning (ERPIII) in using alternative technologies to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. The objective is to motivate distributed intelligence of the global community to find and implement solutions to Save Our Selves (SOS).
