First Edition. Signed presentation copy from the author Robert Bolt to actress Sarah Miles, who later became his wife - twice. Inscribed: ŅFor my dear Sarah - whom it really doesnÕt concern anyway - with love, Robert.Ó Near fine copy with a hint of edge wear in a very good dust jacket with some dust soiling and some small chips and tears. Robert Oxton Bolt, CBE (1924 Š 1995) was an English playwright and a two-time Oscar winning screenwriter - for Doctor Zhivago, based on the novel by Boris Pasternak (1965) and with an adaptation of his own play A Man for All Seasons (1966). At the time of this inscription Robert Bolt and Sarah Miles were not married. That occurred several years later for the first time in 1967, with a divorce in 1975, then with a second marriage in 1988 which endured to his passing. Bolt is also the screenwriter for Lawrence of Arabia (with Michael Wilson) (1962), The Bounty (1984), and his last screen project, The Mission (1986). Sarah Miles earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress in David Lean's 1970 film, Ryan's Daughter. Some of her other films include Blow-Up (1966), The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing (1973), and The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea (1976). BoltÕs play Gentle Jack is a comedy of manÕs conflicting desires to inhabit both the "natural" and "logical" worlds and starred Kenneth Williams, Michael Bryant, Sian Phillips, Edith Evans, Timothy West and Bernard Kay in its initial run.
