Gentleness

Held, Not Helpless

We live in a world that mistakes gentleness for weakness. It tells us to fight for control, hold our ground, and never let anyone see us bend. And yet, Scripture tells a different story. Gentleness: Strength in Stillness shares the wisdom of those who have learned what gentleness is in the hardest seasons of their lives-from cancer diagnoses and sudden loss to broken relationships and the daily chaos of parenting. Each chapter teaches us that gentleness is not a weakness to overcome but that it is:

• Learned in Surrender: God teaches us to trust His hand instead of fighting for our own.
• Strength Under Control: True gentleness is the same power that could tear down but instead chooses to build up.
• Toward Ourselves: In the stillness of a mirror or the pages of a journal, gentleness becomes the way we finally learn to see, forgive, and love.
• Toward Others: Gentleness shows up in how we parent, forgive, and hold space for the people entrusted to us.

With contributions from Olubusola Adelugba, Carrie Alexander, Beverly Kay Dillow, Monica Martinez, Rebecca J. Peters, Debbie Petty, Regina Josephine Stabile, Anastasia T. Stephan, Trinity Oyler Smith, and Amber Webb, Gentleness: Strength in Stillness is the eighth volume in the Fruits of the Spirit Collaborative Book Series, dedicated to bringing Galatians 5:22-23 to life.

Each story points to one truth: gentleness does not mean giving up control. It means placing it, gladly, in hands stronger than our own.
