Geo-Spatial Technologies in Rural Development

This book evidently attempts to demonstrate the use of Geo-Spatial Technologies in Planning and Management of Rural Development. Rural development intends to bring economic betterment for the people through social equity and greater technology transfer. The key elements consists of poverty alleviation, removal of ignorance, improved health care and access to services, creating meaningful infrastructure and amenities for higher quality of life. Intervention of technologies in the rural masses will also develop to boost social, economic and physical infrastructure that substantiate the need for inclusive development. The Geospatial Technologies including Remote Sensing (RS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS), individually as well as collectively enabling the management strategies and emerged as an input for effective rural development practices. Considering the significance of these technologies in rural areas, the North Eastern Regional Centre of the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Guwahati invited research outcome on Geo-Spatial Technologies in rural development from the researchers, academicians, scientists, practitioners, policy and decision makers. These technologies provide a platform through which managers can generate informative data and information that can be used to make sound decisions for sustainable development.
