The Geography of Strabo: VI, [Book XIII-XIV] (Paperback or Softback)

"The Geography of Strabo" stands as one of the most comprehensive and significant geographical works surviving from antiquity. Written by the Greek geographer and historian Strabo during the transition from the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire, this monumental treatise offers a detailed encyclopedic account of the known world at the time. This specific volume, containing Books XIII and XIV, focuses primarily on the regions of Asia Minor, including the Troad, Aeolis, Ionia, and Caria.

Strabo's account transcends simple cartography, integrating history, mythology, and local folklore into his descriptions of the physical landscape. He provides invaluable insights into the cultural and political state of the Eastern Mediterranean, describing the cities, peoples, and natural resources that defined these territories. As an essential primary source for classical scholars, the work serves as a bridge between the Hellenistic tradition and the burgeoning Roman world. "The Geography of Strabo" remains a vital reference for understanding ancient perceptions of space, ethnicity, and empire, preserving a vast array of information that would otherwise be lost to history.
