277 pages + 8 pages of prelims and an advert leaf at rear. 12 full page etched plates a woodcut full page second title, and numerous woodcuts throughout. Blue cloth, ornate gilt grotesque motif on cover and ornate titles to spine. Minor wear top and bottom of spine, some offsetting to the plate guards, charcoal coloured endpapers and AEG (all edges gilt). A handsome copy of this work. Originally published in 1845, this second edition was just as well produced with no loss of quality to the printing or faithful implementation of the etched plates that appeared in the first edition. tall [crown] octavo. Very Good+.

Store description

We are a small, single-owner business. We have been operating on and off since 1977 and our stock is varied, leaning towards antiquarian and 19th century with the addition of original aquatint and lithographic, or woodcut engravings. Also maps and Ephemera - in fact, anything interesting on paper really. We have in stock every item we list. We do not use stock photographs, but photograph each item individually. We very rarely use "fine" or "mint" as a description, mainly due to the age and the fact that 99.9% of what we sell has been pre-owned and therefor Fine would not be a term for a book we sell despite its fine-like appearance. We always take items back unreservedly if not in the condition as described. We always try to describe fully.…
