George Eliot, born Mary Ann Evans, remains to this day a literary icon famous for writing such classics as Middlemarch, The Mill on the Floss, and Silas Marner. Although undated inside, research tells us that this is the 1887 'New Edition' of George Eliot's Life As Related in Her Letters and Journals. Originally published as a three volume set in 1885, this 'New Edition' of 1887 was compiled into one volume with additional material added and some pages removed altogether. Arranged and edited by Eliot's widower J. W. Cross, this book aims to chart the whole of Eliot's life in her own words and acquaint the reader with her more intimate side, with her literary fame coming late in life, her shy.
