J'ai combattu en Espagne aux c�t�s des R�publicains, une p�riode fondatrice de ma critique du stalinisme. J'ai d�nonc� les d�rives du pouvoir dans des essais et des r�cits souvent autobiographiques comme Hommage � la Catalogne. Je suis mondialement connu pour mes deux romans dystopiques majeurs : la satire politique La Ferme des animaux (1945). Mon chef-d'oeuvre, 1984 (1949), a cr�� le concept de � Big Brother � et l'adjectif � orwellien � pour d�crire le contr�le totalitaire.
