Christian has written four published articles on George Sessions Perry, one of which won the best article of the year award from the East Texas Historical Association, and two encyclopedia articles. His book, Black Soldiers in Jim Crow, Texas, 1899-1917, won three awards including the T.R. Fehrenbach Award of the Texas Historical Commission. A native Houstonian, whose father was born in Rockdale, Texas, Christian is a professor of history at the University of Houston-Downtown and a Fellow of the Texas State Historical Association.
