About this title

Synopsis

""George Washington's Rules of Civility Traced to Their Sources and Restored"" is a historical text written by Moncure D. Conway. The book examines the famous set of rules of civility that George Washington copied as a young man, and traces their origins back to their original sources. The rules of civility were a set of guidelines for proper behavior and manners that were popular in the 16th and 17th centuries. They were meant to teach young men how to behave in polite society and were often copied and memorized as a form of education. George Washington was known for his adherence to these rules and copied them out by hand as a young man. In this book, Conway explores the history and significance of these rules and their continued relevance in modern society. The book is a fascinating exploration of the history of manners and etiquette and is a must-read for anyone interested in the life and legacy of George Washington. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. About the Author

George Washington was born in Virginia in 1732. As a young man, he learned the morals, manners, and knowledge necessary to become a Virginia gentleman. He was particularly interested in the military arts and western expansion. At the age of 16, he helped survey Shenandoah lands. At the age of 22, he was commissioned a lieutenant colonel and fought in the first battles of what became the French and Indian War. Unanimously elected as the first President of the United States, Washington served two terms before retiring to Mount Vernon. He passed away on December 14, 1799.
