Geotechnical Applications: IGC 2016 Volume 4: 13 (Lecture Notes in Civil Engineering)

This book comprises select proceedings of the annual conference of the Indian Geotechnical Society. The conference brings together research and case histories on various aspects of geotechnical engineering and geoenvironmental engineering. The book presents papers on geotechnical applications and case histories, covering topics such as (i) shallow and deep foundations; (ii) stability of earth and earth retaining structures; (iii) rock engineering, tunneling, and underground constructions; (iv) forensic investigations and case histories; (v) reliability in geotechnical engineering; and (vi) special topics such as offshore geotechnics, remote sensing and GIS, geotechnical education, codes, and standards. The contents of this book will be of interest to researchers and practicing engineers alike.

Anirudhan I.V. is a geotechnical consultant based in Chennai, India. His career as an independent consultant started in 1987 after associating with a leading geotechnical consultancy firm. His major field of expertise is foundation design & construction and ground improvement techniques. He has been involved in the design of foundations and ground improvement schemes for the power and water projects in India and abroad. His organization, Geotechnical Solutions in Chennai, has executed more than 1500 small and medium geotechnical investigation jobs and provided foundation recommendations for small to high-rise buildings. Mr. Anirudhan graduated in Geotechnical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, India, in 1981 after obtaining a B.Sc. Engg. Degree in Civil Engineering from the College of Engineering, Thrissur, Kerala, India. He is actively involved in the activities of Indian Geotechnical Society and has conducted conferences and seminars. He has authored several conference papers ongeotechnical engineering applications and a manual on Lateritic Soils. He was a member of TC 302 of ISSMGE on Forensic Engineering and the convener of TC-04 of the Indian Geotechnical Society on Geotechnical Investigation. He is the vice chair of the Deep Foundations Institute of India. 

V.B. Maji joined the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in 2008, and is currently working as an associate professor there. He received his PhD degree from the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. He has a Master of Technology degree from the Institute of Technology (now IIT), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), India and a Bachelor of Science Engineering degree from BIT Sindri, Dhanbad, India. Prior to joining IIT Madras, he worked as associate consultant at Advanced Technologies and Engineering Services (ATES), a consultancy division of AIMIL Ltd., New Delhi, India. His teaching and research interest includes rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
