Hardcover. John Petrov Plamenatz (1912-1975) was born in Montenegro. His father, a political activist, was forced to leave the country in 1917, and Plamenatz was sent to England, where he was educated and became a naturalized citizen. He was a political philosopher and spent most of his academic life at the University of Oxford. Plamenatz's specialty was political theory, with an emphasis on Marxism and Communism in his published writing. This work is critical of Marxism, whose assumptions he thinks are confused and not consistent with facts. He then discusses how Russian Communism evolved from Marxism in a distorted way to promote a proletarian revolution in a country that was much less industrialized than Germany. An interesting analysis from the early days of the Cold War. Very scarce in the United States in the original 1954 edition. Octavo. Black cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Black dust jacket with title in white to front and spine panels. Minor wear on edges of dust jacket. Pages are yellowed, but clean, tight interior. 356 pages. COMM/ 083106. Seller Inventory # 18486
