Reviews
Those who think Germany is all factories and autobahns will be stunned by the lush Bavarian forests, soaring Alpine peaks, and turreted castles that sweep across these pages. Ruetz has captured the pastoral as well as urban essence of his homeland with a Linhof Technorama camera that encompasses 100-degree views without distortion. The effect is to thrust the viewer into the tableau. "The . . . photographs of Michael Ruetz," writes Joachim Kaiser in a thoughful introduction, "give us a vision of how much beauty, majesty and hidden poetry is still to be found in post-war Germany." And Ruetz's vision is not of the tour-package variety. "My view of Germany," writes the author, "is not intended for someone who plans to 'do' the country in a couple of days." Recommended.
