Kindergarten-Grade 3-- When best friend Frieda is bored with the daily routine of phone call, visit, her pumpkin-date bread, and even her ever-present purple hat, Gert suggests taking off the hat and going for a walk. The things Frieda finds on the walk provide her with ideas for new hats--including one for Gert. Although boredom is not limited to the adult world, its slight portrayal here has little carry-over to children's concerns; even the recipe appended for the pumpkin bread advises seeking adult help.
