Geschiedenis Van Java: Middengeschiedenis : Mohammedaansche Staten (Tweede Tijdvak). DL by Julien Wolbers. This Dutch history volume surveys the Middengeschiedenis of Java, focusing on the Mohammedan States in the second era, tracing the rise of the Mataram sultans, the interactions with Bantam, Jacatra, and the Dutch East India Company, and the eventual consolidation of Dutch influence in Java. Spanning multiple chapters, the work chronicles political, social and religious developments, including Batavia’s foundation and the evolving balance between native rulers and European traders. Through documentary sources and analytic narration, it portrays how Java’s institutions, economy, and society were shaped by internal rivalries and external powers, culminating in an early-modern period that laid the groundwork for Batavia as the hub of Dutch rule in the archipelago.
