The Get Fit Training Manual: Creating an Inclusive Culture of Health for People with Disabilities is the only curriculum-based training program developed for health and wellness management professionals who work with people with a wide variety of needs. Written and compiled by physical, physiological and therapeutic health professionals, this manual explores the functions and vital processes of the cognitive and physical profiles prevalent in people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; defines a core understanding of the ethics and guiding principles to follow when working with people with disabilities; and includes evidence-based, pilot-tested lesson plans and fitness assessment forms. Dr. Joseph Galasso is a clinical, consulting, and sport psychologist. He works with elite athletes on an individual/team basis and currently provides psychological & performance services for several professional teams including the NY Red Bulls and NJ Devils. Dr. Galasso has a particular interest in creating adaptive, inclusive fitness and wellness opportunities for clients with intellectual, developmental, physical, and emotional disabilities. He is a founding partner and chief executive officer of The COR Behavioral Group: ABA & Autism Services.
Dr. Adeola M. Sonaike has a strong background in public health, specializing in chronic disease prevention and epidemiology. In 2011, she began her work with The Family Resource Network where she is responsible for the development, evaluation, expansion and oversight of national health and wellness programs for people with special health care needs. Passionate about inclusive health and wellness opportunities, Dr. Sonaike provides consultation services to additional National Organizations to assist them with the development of wellness initiatives.
