You Get What You Get : Break the Cycles You Didn't Choose, Reclaim Your Identity, & Create a Life That Finally Feels Like Yours

You didn't choose the family you were born into, the beliefs you were handed, or the version of yourself you had to become to survive it. But you get to choose what you do with it now.

You Get What You Get is part memoir, part reclamation, and entirely a permission slip to stop performing a life you never picked. Whether you're stuck, searching, or finally ready to thrive — this book meets you exactly where you are and shows you the way out.

Whether you are exhausted from playing a role you never auditioned for, questioning the identity you inherited before you ever got to choose one, wondering who you'd be without everyone else's expectations, or simply ready to stop waiting for permission to become the woman you know you're here to be — this book is for you.

You do not have to keep repeating the patterns you didn't choose.

You do not have to earn the right to reinvent yourself.

You do not have to have it all figured out before you start becoming her.

The cycles were never your fault. But the reclaiming is your work to do.

You Get What You Get will make you exhale, name what's been running the show, and help you build a life that finally feels like yours — not the one you defaulted into.

For too long, women have been taught that starting over means starting from scratch, that midlife reinvention is a crisis instead of an invitation, and that questioning the identity you built for everyone else makes you ungrateful instead of awake.

It is time to tell the truth.

In You Get What You Get, certified coach and author Dawn M. Rivers draws on her own reinvention — twenty years as a school librarian, five years running a yoga studio, and a leap into an entirely new chapter — to map the cycles that keep women stuck as "Stagnant Stella," moving but unmoored as "Searching Serena," or finally, fully alive as "Thriving Theresa."

This is not a book that tells you who to be.

It is a book that hands you the tools to break the cycles you didn't choose, reclaim the identity that's actually yours, and build a life that finally feels like it belongs to you.
