The battle of Gettysburg remains one of the most-studied battles in American history. However, few authors have ever used military miniatures, wargames, dioramas, and scale model soldiers and battle scenes as the means of fully illustrating a sweeping overview of the battle, campaign, key personalities, and the aftermath, including Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. A team of gamers and dioramists from across North America and Europe have joined multiple-award-winning wargamer and author Scott Mingus to present more than 200 black-and-white photos of their finest works related to Gettysburg. This is aimed at teenagers but should satisfy most Gettysburg buffs of all ages, as well as gamers and modelers.
Scott L. Mingus is a career scientist and consultant in the global pulp & paper industry, and holds patents in self-adhesive postage stamps and bar code labels. He has written 21 Civil War and Underground Railroad books. His biography of General William "Extra Billy" Smith won multiple awards, including the Dr. James I. Robertson, Jr. Literary Prize. He has also written several articles for Gettysburg Magazine, as well as for various historical journals.
Tristan S. Mingus lives in Dover, Pennsylvania. His interest in the Civil War stems from the earliest days of his childhood when he and his grandfather took frequent trips to Gettysburg National Military Park, including to watch the annual Remembrance Day parade. His paternal 4th-great-grandfather, Pvt. John D. Sisson, was a 15-year-old drummer and rifleman in the 51st Ohio Infantry in the Western Theater.
