In Barangay San Roque, the first book began with a woman whom the government record had declared dead while she was still alive. Book 2 begins with another kind of ghost, not a person this time, but a road.

The road beside San Roque Elementary is cracked, muddy, dangerous, and familiar. Parents complain about it. Children avoid it. Tricycle drivers slow down beside it. Everyone knows the road is unsafe, but for years it has remained part of ordinary life.
