He grew up a part of America’s Greatest Generation—those who worked hard, sacrificed, and perfectly exemplified the resilience of the human spirit. In a small community rooted in the age-old customs of ranching and farming, Boyd Keisel discovered many hidden lessons of life in places you’d least expect to find them—discovering life-changing truths about love, consequences, and family that would guide him every step of the way.
Now, in Gifting and the Stick, Keisel shares the most humorous tales, poignant reflections, and enduring wisdom experienced during his youth in Ephraim, Utah. Inspired by the concept of living a gifting way of life, as well as by the allegory of “the stick,” this collection of short tales will transport readers to a different place and time—one where character is everything, and honest, hard work is the key to getting by.
From the importance of helping others, to the ever-balanced nature of actions and consequences, to knowing God’s hand in your life, this inspirational memoir contains true stories and heartfelt memories that still resonate today—making for an entertaining and thought-provoking look at America’s most highly regarded generation.
Boyd Keisel is a graduate of Utah State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in English followed by graduate degrees in education administration. Throughout his long career in public education, he has worked as an English teacher, coach, and principal, as well as an assistant superintendent and superintendent.
Keisel formerly served as the executive director of a program providing educational opportunities for Navajo high school students. He is also the author of a number of hunting stories-many of which have appeared in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's Bugle magazine.
