Gil Dodds: The Flying Parson

Gil Dodds: The Flying Parson is a biography written by Mel Larson about the life of Gil Dodds, a renowned American runner and Christian minister. The book covers Dodds' early life, his rise to fame as a track and field star in the 1940s, and his decision to leave the sport to pursue a career as a pastor. Larson delves into Dodds' personal and spiritual journey, exploring the impact of his faith on his athletic achievements and his decision to use his platform as a runner to spread his message. The book also touches on Dodds' involvement in the controversy surrounding the Amateur Athletic Union's ban on professional athletes, as well as his work as a chaplain during World War II. Through interviews with Dodds' family, friends, and colleagues, as well as extensive research, Larson paints a vivid portrait of a man who embodied both physical and spiritual excellence. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
