A scarce copy of this illustrated work on English woodlands and forestry. Scarce work. Illustrated with a frontispiece and fifteen plates. Collated complete. A commentary on English woodlands and forests, with chapters on the beauty of trees, their character, spray and foliage, as well as celebrated trees, park scenery, and the forest itself. Originally written by William Gilpin, an English artist, Church of England cleric, schoolmaster and author best known as one of those who originated the idea of the picturesque. Edited with an introduction and notes by Francis George Heath, a British author and civil servant. Bound by Burn & Co. In the original full cloth binding with gilt. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Library sticker to the tail of the spine. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot or handling mark. The odd small tide mark. Light spotting to the endpapers. Bookseller's label and Natural History Society bookplate to the front endpaper. Bound by Burn & Co. Good. Seller Inventory # 903T13
