About this Item

Seattle: Frye Art Museum. 2006. F First Edition. S Paperback. Fine. SIGNED BY ARTISTon title page. An 'as new' copy. "Ginnungagap: Recent Work by Sigrid Sandström includes 33 full-color prints of Sandström's paintings, installations and videos, in addition to essays by Jaimey Hamilton, PhD, Lecturer in Contemporary Art at Massachusetts College of Art, and Robin Held, Frye Art Museum Chief Curator and Director of Exhibitions and Collections. Sandström's art explores the various ways in which we claim land - linguistically, mythically or physically, as well as the motivations for such claims (exploration, property, sense of self, destiny). The raw material for these explorations is the landscape of her home country, Sweden. Dramatic scale shifts and purposely awkward surface treatments create powerful images that question how we understand the nature of Nature. Born in Stockholm, Sandström received her MFA from Yale University in 2001. She lives in Tivoli, New York, where she teaches at Bard College. She is represented by Inman Gallery, Houston, and Galleri Gunnar Olsson, Stockholm. The Frye Art Museum exhibition upon which the catalog is based is the first solo museum showing of Sandström's work." Signed: I Signed by Artist. Bookseller Inventory # 00512288
