Her Story:
After finally accepting that I wasn't going to have children, I was lucky enough to meet a wonderful giving young woman, through my sister-in-law. For many reasons, it was truly meant to be. After a few years of trying to have a baby, I gave birth to my twin girls at 43. I cannot imagine my life without my girls now. They are truly angels and make me want to be a better person for them.
My husband and I knew we wanted to tell the girls that we used donor eggs. There are some books on the market now, some very good ones. But I didn't feel that any of them were appropriate for very young toddlers. Some people might think it's too early, but I believe that introducing the topic to them as young as possible is best. As they age, they will start to ask questions when they become more curious about what it all means. I wanted something to read to them. So, I wrote the book myself. It is a very simple but beautiful story about two giraffe's wanting to be a Mommy and a Daddy. I read the book to my girls and they ask for "more, more" every time. I can only think that there must be other parents out there that used donor-eggs who want to introduce the topic to their children early. I hope this book helps you with introducing a sensitive subject to your little one in a fun and simple way!
