The Girl in Golden Rags

1926. Reprint. [iv], 308pp. Robert William Chambers (1865-1933) was an American artist and a prolific writer of novels, short stories and children's books. "The Girl in Golden Rags" is the success story of a sturdy, stout-hearted widow, Anne Ardres, and her daughter Jaqueline, who gallantly struggled to win a living from their farm in upper New York State. The book is bound in the original orange boards with black titling on the spine. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling to the boards. There is a water stain around the top spine corner and down part of the spine edge of the front board and the rear board has damp marking and some mould staining to about 1 1/2" of the lower part of the spine edge and along the bottom edge. The spine edges also show some staining and the spine ends are bumped. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the half-title page and some damp marking around the bottom spine corner of the last few pages. The front fixed endpaper is browned from damp and the rear fixed and free endpapers also have damp staining together with red staining around the edges where colour has been taken from the rear board.
