Grade 7 Up-Based on frequently asked questions to Girls' Life magazine, this guide is a real winner. Bokram and Sinex cover the crucial areas of adolescent angst, including crushes, school, "YOU," "Your Body," and "the Tough Stuff" (moving, sexual harassment, grieving, eating disorders, parent problems, etc.). Each chapter features straightforward information about the challenges that girls face today. There are quizzes sprinkled throughout to determine such things as "Is He Crushworthy?" and "Can You Keep a Secret?" The sections on friends and family are particularly helpful. The tone of the entire book is upbeat and modern. Palen's quirky cartoons add humor and punctuate important points. While the table of contents is helpful, there is no index for easy reference. The only real weakness is the scant listing of 800 numbers and Web resources. Overall, a useful title that readers will find themselves coming back to again and again.
