Starring Selma Kaye, Martha Larrimore, John Cortay, Anton Marco, etc. Grand Opera Libretto Seriesl Published by Edwin F. Kalmus in Scarsdale NY This is an interesting bit of theatre ephemera. It is a program from April 1950 of the Syracuse Philharmonic Orchestra and the San Carlo Opera Company performing Giuseppe Verdi's great tragic opera, "Aïda". The Syracuse Philharmonic Orchestra was directed by Dr. Nicholas Gualillo, and the San Carlo Opera Company was directed by Fortune Gallo. The opera was performed April 3, 1950 in Lincoln Auditorium. The libretto was prepared in book form by A. Ghislanzoni, and published by Edwin F. Kalmus in Scarsdale, New York in the Grand Opera Libretto Series. The book measures approximately 6" x 9", is 29 pages in length, and is bound in decorated orange wraps, stapled. BOOK CONDITION : VERY GOOD - There are four small scars to the inside of the rear cover where the program had obviously been attached, else the libretto is in exceptional condition - bright clean and unmarked, with solid binding. The playbill is a single sheet, measuring 5 1/2" x 11", printed on one side only. PLAYBILL CONDITION : FAIR - It was folded once, horizontally, displays mild weathering, a touch of spotting with shallow creasing, and is a bit rough about the edges, with the remains of clear tape to each corner, but for the bottom right corner tip, which has small loss (diagonal length of loss about an inch). *********************************** Performing in the opera were :: Aïda, an Ethiopian Slave .
