Drug addiction is a disease of the brain with very specific physiological consequences. A careful and controlled detoxification process is a key part of recovery. This informational overview explains the most effective detox treatment.
David M. Mathis, DO, FASAM, DABAM, is an expert with twenty-five years of hands-on experience in the fields of alcohol and drug addiction treatment and psychiatry. In Give In or Give Up,he explains his unique detox methods, which include a fifteen-day Klonopin taper protocol to reduce nerve cell damage and preserve the patient’s memory and learning abilities. He explains the whole cycle, from the initial addiction through a potential postrecovery relapse. He discusses the many facets of addiction and the path to recovery:
· what addiction is and who is most at risk
· how the healthy brain works and what effects addiction has on it
· why withdrawal happens and how detoxification should occur
· currently available treatment programs and which ones work best
· how to take care of the new you and why broad changes are necessary
Understanding addiction is the only route to finding a solution. This book will give you the information you need to rediscover health for yourself or someone else suffering from addiction.
