Our sociey is full of disenfranchised and disengaged youth who seemingly have few opportunities to develop leadership skills and rise above barriers to success. Weary of people who complain about young people or give lip service to youth engagement, Donna Gillen, Marlys Johnson, and Jackie Sinykin felt compelled to share what they have learned from their rich and varied experiences with young people. Donna Gillen is the Executive Director of youthrive, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage young people with adults in strengthening leadership and peacebuilding skills. Marlys Johnson is a retired nonprofit consultant with a deep commitment to children, youth, and communities. Jackie Sinykin is a nonprofit performance consultant, personal coach, and former Executive Director of the Volunteer Center.
