First edition of this complete series of lessons in Glamour Photography. Quarto. This item is comprised of 20 lessons of 8 pp. each. Well illustrated from photographs with many of illustrations being nudes. The whole held together with two metal rings. Title page (first leaf) with some dust soiling and aging but overall a very good copy of this very scarce item.At first perusal one would think that this is just another clever way to deliver salacious materials under the cover of art photography but W. R. & Ruth Harrison actually ran a very successful studio in Hollywood in the 40s. The lessons, in addition to delivering up numerous nude shots, provide a wealth of actual information useful in portrait photography. Some of the lessons titles are as follow: Costuming; Make Up and Hair Styling; Lighting, etc. Lessons 15 & 16 are specifically about nudes. And Lesson 17, Processing, gives numerous ideas on the developing your film. The Harrison's also published a magazine called "The Glamourgraph." In their January, 1945 issue we can read the following explanation of a Glamourgraph: "A Glamourgraph is not a portrait in the ordinary sense of the word. It is a portrait, the photographer tries to obtain a good likeness of the sitter as she presents herself to the camera. In a Glamourgraph we try to obtain a likeness of the sitter as she would like to appear." Although one can see many ads for Harrison Studios in Hollywood in contemporary magazines, OCLC has no record of this publication.
