Pattern sourcebooks tend to be interchangeable for various crafts, which is somewhat the case with these two books. Gear and Freestone's work is a large collection similar to Mary McCarthy's The Crafter's Pattern Sourcebook (LJ 10/15/99). These motifs are arranged into general categories such as flowers or birds without further identification of item or source. However, these omissions probably do not diminish its usefulness. Everett offers a more limited collection of designs with instructions for etchings and photographs of finished pieces, some rather complex landscapes for advanced projects. Both books would be useful in crafts collections needing more design source material.
