Hardback. Mark to bottom edge of back cloth. Mark to bottom edge. Waterstain mark to bottom edge of back D/J and last couple of pages. This book is a fictionarl account of life in an Oxfordshire village in the period around Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887. Readers of Flora Thompson's classic countryside trilogy Lark Rise to Candlefor will recognize the strong personal undertones it shares with that famous autobiography. With accuracy and affection she describes the highlights of the village year: feasts and flower shows, the May Day procession and the mummers at Christmas, weddings and christenings, harvest homes, pig feasts, alehouse hollity, and danging on the green. She does not sentimentalize the real hardships of a rual existence she had experienced herself at firsthand. Still Glides the Stream was her last work, puplished posthumously the year after her death in 1947. 233 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).…
